Yesterday the UC Sport Study tour had a change of pace, with a day out on the reef. Students had the opportunity to snorkel along a small section of the Great Barrier Reef, the largest organism in the world, visible from the moon. Some students also took up the opportunity to try scuba diving. Scuba diving is an activity that can have serious medical complications as the below water pressures stress the physiological systems (link to article) if divers don't take care, but the short 20min dive posed no problem to the students.
Marine biologists were on hand to explain the ecosystem as the students snorkeled, sat in the semi-submersible, rode the glass bottom boat or just relaxed on the large pontoon.
The reef trip was followed by a BBQ nearby some beach volleyball courts, a skate park and bouldering facility built by the local council and state government.
