The next 2 days were spent pretty much on the bus. Greg drove us from Banff to Penticton which took approximately 8 hours, then then another 5 hours from Penticton to Vancouver. We did stop at a few interesting places along the way which broke up the journey. The most interesting stop was at Rogers pass (http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/bc/rogers/visit/visit2.aspx). This section of the road in winter is notorious for avalanches, and as a result killed 7 school children on a school skiing trip not too long ago. Due to the inevitable avalanches, as explained by Chic Scott, we saw first hand a couple of large cannons that were used to cause avalanches in a controlled manner.
